Join our conversation and community building around Native Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (Native STEAM) in NM. What does it mean to be in STEM? How can it be inclusive? What does this mean for community building around our overlapping roles such as students, educators, professionals, parents, community members? We are hoping this conversation will lead to networking and collective goal setting to reimagine the future of STEAM in Native Communities.
NM CIRCLES is part of a six-state alliance to support Native students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). CIRCLES alliance partners with these states to address the under representation of Indigenous students in STEAM. Indigenous people have been engineers, scientists, mathematicians, astronomers, biologists, doctors, and many other STEM professionals for centuries. Indigenous people learned to intertwine their culture with what they learned from Mother Earth and created our unique Indigenous way of knowing. We must celebrate this aspect of our identity, as it has survived and thrived through modernization of our peoples.
In-person event.
Food/refreshments and travel support is available for in-person participants only.
We hope you can join us for our event at Buffalo Thunder. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Program Coordinator: Jonnie Woody at jonnieawoody@epscor.unm.edu.
