Engineering Research Center Workshop
“Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystems in the Desert Southwest”
The University of New Mexico is organizing a one-day workshop on July 8 (9 am to 2 pm) to brainstorm ideas around an NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) proposal titled “Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystems in the Desert Southwest.” This initiative aims to examine the feasibility of manufacturing semiconductors in a manner that aligns with the limited water resources available in the southwestern United States. We envision this effort as a convergence of water, energy, workforce, and advanced manufacturing.
The workshop will feature interactive round table discussions with industry experts, national laboratories, and researchers from across UNM, followed by discussions to identify areas of strength and potential teams and topics for an ERC submission.
